There is a flower that is indigenous to North America. It’s called the Bleeding Heart. It has long arching branches and tiny heart-shaped blossoms. Each blossom has what looks like a drop of blood coming out of the bottom of it, thus its name.As spring unfolds and the blossoms erupt from the Bleeding Heart’s stems ...I remember him. It brings a melancholy with the fevers of Spring I never want to forget. I was so young that day, but then, so was he.
They call him a ‘Bleeding Heart Liberal’. From the moment he could talk, he was one of those people that would pick up a cause at the drop of the hat. In fact I often wondered what he would have done if not for his battles for the underdog, mistreated and wronged.
I remember how beautiful he was. Even in formal attire he looked like a teenager trying to fit the image, uncomfortable in his suit and tie. His laughter and spirit still resonates and his smile so clear in my memories.
June 6th is the anniversary of Attorney General Bobby Kennedy’s assassination in 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. He is one ‘Bleeding Heart Liberal’ we are better for knowing and helped make us a stronger an
d united nation.
Take time to remember Bobby this spring. He made a difference in all our lives.
