Standing on the sand I looked down at my legs. I felt the tiny grains between my toes and the gravity under my feet. It was still warm from the day’s sun.
The moon traced the beach towards the house. Nothing stirred yet the abusive sound of their world tore at my ear drums. No movement apparent except the waves meeting the land. They all slept so unaware and unbelieving.
I walked cautiously towards the house and found an open window. I climbed in and stood very still briefly getting my bearings.
I walked up the stairs to the rooms where they laid. Children slept in their beds and smell of their lives assaulted my senses. I found her room. She turned in her slumber but didn’t wake. The stolen pearls lay on a table beside her. I picked them up and left as quietly as I had come.
Walking back into the water, I turned and looked back at the house for just a moment. They were a species of thieves, liars and cruelty. It was too painful to even ponder.
I plunged under the waves and felt the comfort of my scales covering me. My dorsal and tail carried me deep into water. The wonderful silence of my world enveloped me.
I was glad to be in the safety of my home and with my family. I returned the pearls to their rightful owner.

Yep, I am one of those thieves who glee on collecting empty shells and dead star fish from ocean beaches. I hope that none of those scaly creatures will ever find me.

Thanks sweetpea! I've always loved sea shells. Friends even bring them to me when they vacation on beaches! I've got quite a collection. Although that big oyster shell I purchased. I just couldn't resist it.
