The Price of Success

Behind the Closed Door’ is premiering at The Artist Challenge Today! Stop by and say hello to the Artist! Art cards of ALL their work are on sale for ONLY $7.

Richard’s partners told him they just loved him. They said he was the best and they so appreciated all he did. They even said he was brilliant and they couldn’t do it without him.

Richard would be at his desk before his partners arrived in the morning and he was always the last to leave. When his partners faltered he would fix everything. You see, to Richard it wasn’t just about working a job. To Richard, it was the price of success.

Now, the only problem was his partners began to depend on Richard and all was not what it seemed. They didn’t even bother doing any work because they knew Richard would pick up the slack. They would snicker and call him ‘an old work horse‘. Even when Richard needed to address matters that concerned the company, their arrogant and pompous salutation was always “Sure! Whatever you want, Richard!”

They relished in the fact they would be getting richer everyday, while Richard did all the work. They didn’t think Richard knew they felt that way…. but he did.

So, Richard just worked that much harder, remembering this was the price of success. His partners didn’t even notice the small photo Richard had taped to the wall of his cubicle. It was grand sailboat with white sales sparkling in the sun. Occasionally you could even find Richard staring at it.

I don’t know what really happened, but one day Richard was gone. They said he just picked up his brief case and said, “I’m done now. Got everything I want!”

When the partners looked at the books, the company was completely broke. There was one last entry that said, “$1, 000, 000 for Richard and a job well done.” Their own handwriting was beside it clearly showing their agreement: “Sure! Whatever you want, Richard!”

So the company closed its doors and that was the last of it.

If you pass by the marina, you may notice a grand sail boat with white sales that sparkle in the sun. On the side of it- the name clearly reads: ‘The Price of Success.’

Hi, great paintings vikki. enjoyed going through your blog. And I recently got a blog award (probably couldn't find anyone else to give it to), so in order not to make anyone else have the hassle, I kept it without following the conditions set. I guess that is the last one I will ever get!

Hi Rahina,
Thanks. Just fun stuff.

Your welcome to grab my 'no blog awards' badge. That little guy has been showing up on blogs of people I don't even know. He's taken on a life of his own.

And check out my other site- The Artist Challenge. All kinds of crazy fun going on there.

Beautiful! I love the transition from raw abstract medium to exquisitely rendered subject. I think it fits the emotion well! :o)

Thanks Michael,
This kind of unfinished look was created during the Impressionist Period. I think it was actually Degas who so verbal about it and insisted that a painting should reveal that it is paint and not a 'photograph'- thus frequently left his edges raw with brush stokes glaring.

had wondered the "story line" that went with this one. Perfect- absolutely -Perfect. Gotta have this one Vikki.

Hi Sonya,
Thanks. I realized years ago you make a story out of anything! I 'B.S'd' my way through college with my writing. I actually had a couple instructors note that 'although I dealt with few facts on the subject at hand, the story was delightful.'
Can't beat that!

I could tell you a story. It's a whopper.... but I can't share it on the Internet. Absolutely not, but man oh man... if there was someone who deserved what they got coming for them - well, let's just say - God don't sleep!

Ok, I can't tell that story - but Lol, I'll share this one. My first ex cheated on me and ended up marrying the woman. Later he started emailing me and told me how he caught her cheating on him. Poetic. Justice.

Loved that painting and especially the red tie!

Hi Aleta!
That's so funny. You'll have to email me the story.

And the ex- Isn't that always the way!? I had a friend who dated a guy who cheated on his wife with her ...and then she married him and he cheated on my friend! I think Karma will get you every time.

Another amazing painting. And a rollicking bit of fiction to go along with it. You are every bit as amazing as your Art.

Hi Lou,
Thanks.
The stories come well after the paintings by the most part. Sometimes I have to look at a painting for days before I come up with a story scheme for it.

I enjoy every minute of it.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks. The gray tones actually have a bit of cobalt blue mixed in that the camera just didn't see.

BTW- We have a new challenge publishing on Monday. It's a really cool one.
