There is a flower that is indigenous to North America. It’s called the Bleeding Heart. It has long arching branches and tiny heart-shaped blossoms. Each blossom has what looks like a drop of blood coming out of the bottom of it, thus its name.As spring unfolds and the blossoms erupt from the Bleeding Heart’s stems ...I remember him. It brings a melancholy with the fevers of Spring I never want to forget. I was so young that day, but then, so was he.
They call him a ‘Bleeding Heart Liberal’. From the moment he could talk, he was one of those people that would pick up a cause at the drop of the hat. In fact I often wondered what he would have done if not for his battles for the underdog, mistreated and wronged.
I remember how beautiful he was. Even in formal attire he looked like a teenager trying to fit the image, uncomfortable in his suit and tie. His laughter and spirit still resonates and his smile so clear in my memories.
June 6th is the anniversary of Attorney General Bobby Kennedy’s assassination in 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. He is one ‘Bleeding Heart Liberal’ we are better for knowing and helped make us a stronger an
d united nation.
Take time to remember Bobby this spring. He made a difference in all our lives.

What an awesome post and gorgeous painting!!! Wow.
I so wish I had time to focus in and join in these art challenges...just cannot find focused time anymore.
I love that painting.
Hi Sandy,
And thanks. This painting was actually 'ala prima' do to my own time issues.
I wish you would join in on the challenge themes. Everybody is enjoying the process so much and repeatedly tells me the great additions they're getting for their own websites. You have to take a look at this month's upcoming challenges.
Warning: Totally irrestible.
Vikki
awww..they look like beautiful little redheads with sad faces and what a beautiful tribute to an unforgettable man
Hi Odd Chick,
Thank you. Isn't it amazing to realize he was only 43 years old? I loved this picture of him. I think it says it all.
Vikki
Someone has exported bleeding hearts over to us in Oz Vikki - they are very beautiful and you have done them proud.
Bobby Kennedy is very worth remembering ...
Hi June of Oz,
Thanks. They're actually such strange looking little flowers. They look 'other worldly' or like something out of a scifi movie.
And RFK: How can anyone not smile when they remember him?

Hi Vikki,
I'm diggin' the play between the background and foreground in your painting. The flowers are so wild looking, with luscious color, yet still feel dignified. And the background is dreamy and expressive to me. The burst of green colors adds a certain "new spring growth" tension and contrast that I like!

Hi Michael-
Thanks. I know the flowers started looking more and more alien as I painted. Defintiely ala prima and not one of my strongest works - but the little bleeding hearts boldly serve their purpose for the spring fever gallery

You make me want to pluck one of those hearts off the monitor. We don't have a lot of those blooms around here, but I think it's beautiful! Lovely story to go with it.
Hi Aleta,
Thanks. I have a little wooden basket that hangs from my patio with some hot pink ones. They are beautiful.

Hi Vicci, it is so darn busy here all the time with grandkids....what will happen is I will see something that will fire me up and I'll just have to join in. I haven't even had much time to get over to the forum (as much as I enjoy it)...one of these days things are going to settle down ....
Would you be my art teacher, ha! I love your paintings so much.
Hi Sandy,
You should look at the themes at the Challenge and see if you already have something that might be applicable. That's what a few people have been doing when they're swamped.
And I know what you mean. The older I get, the fewer hours there seems to be in the day. It's all going by to fast.
Vikki
Hi Vikki,
My heart is bleeding for the bleeding hearts. More precisely, my heart is pleading to me to buy your "Bleeding Hearts" painting and give it a good home. (not that it doesn't have a good home already...)
The painting is absolutely beautiful. I'm completely taken and blinded by it, which is always a bad time to make a decision to buy or not to buy. Therefore, I'll mull over it for now.
This post is a great tribute to the late Robert Kennedy. So sad that most of the male Kennedys died so young.
I'll be visiting the Artists Chaallenge site soon. Sorry, I've been slacking with my visits. Life got in a way, as usual.
Tasha
Hi Tashabud,
Thanks. The Kennedys are said to be American Royality. They are also an American tragedy. I always get a wave of melancholy when I see any of the remaining family on TV. Maybe all these grandkids that are coming to age will make a change in their story.
