My name is Timothy.
I am Anemone.
My color purple be
'Cause I am a flower, see?
Close your eyes for minute. Picture a world where everything looks exactly the same. Let’s say that everything is a powder green:
I am Anemone.
My color purple be
'Cause I am a flower, see?
Close your eyes for minute. Picture a world where everything looks exactly the same. Let’s say that everything is a powder green:
The powder green houses and buildings are all identical. The powder green cars are all the same. Inside our powder green homes, we all have exactly the same powder green furniture. We all have two children: one a boy and one a girl who we dress in powder green clothing. They go to same powder green school with all the other children dressed in powder green.
In fact, we all wear our powder green suits and do the same job in our powder green office. We all have the same amount of powder green money. It is a perfect powder green world and we want for nothing because we are all the same…and powder green!!
Then we hear a scream: “I’m Better Than You Are and I Can Prove It!”
Doesn’t fit with our perfect powder green world, does it?
God bless our differences, huh? We are all so individual in our likes, desires and style. Not only that, do you realize we’re born show-offs? From the moment we pull ourselves to our feet for the very first time, we look around for our audience, “Look at me! Look what I can do! Look how wonderful I am!”
Professionally I had to be proficient and work in so many different artistic styles- none that I’d really classify as my own. That’s kind of a hard nut for any artist. No matter what medium or genre we choose, artist have a common goal: finding our own style/ our own form of wonderful. Of course, now that I’m retired, I’m just having a blast doing my own thing.
By the way, thanks for letting me show off my version of wonderful every week.
So tell me: What is your special unique amazing wonderful?
Vikki
The line “I’m Better Than You Are and I Can Prove It,” comes from a commercial that I did years ago.
BTW- Our Dear Friend, the Logistician appeared on a Blog Talk Radio Panel on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. The second part of the presentation will be conducted on a date to be determined in March 2009. To view the subject matter of the first part, simply click here:

Hi Leslie and thanks,
It was a really quick post this week. I'm sure you know how that goes.
I visited your blog and really like the work your doing with the calligraphy applied as a visual element. Very beautiful.
I'll revisit and leave a comment.
Vikki
YES!! First commenter again! Do I hold the record in this regard? I am the best (in terms of the number of times that I have been the first) commenter on the Red Chair Gallery blog. No?
Just being silly. Well, I guess I'd better keep this short so that someone else does not sneak their comment in ahead of mine....
On a serious level Vikki, I was in a profession for many years where virtually everyone had a bit of an ego and resembled crabs fighting to get out of the barrel.
I learned to be relatively non-descript or vanilla, and blend into the woodwork until it was time to say do or say something of value which no one had done or said up to that point. However, I always wanted the statement to reflect the contributions of those who had contributed to the discussion before me.
Somewhat of a different way for someone to distinguish themself. I thus earned the reputation as "The voice of reason."
Hi Logistician,
Yes! You hold the record as the number one first commenter on The Red Chair Blog. And you also hold the record for being one of silliest (and funniest) men I know, Esquire.
And I can identify with an ego braced environment. I worked in
the film business. Need I say more?
Like you I had a nice complement amongst my piers: The employees had to address corporate on a company issue. In a meeting they all agreed that I should be the speaking representative- (as what they referred to) as the only 'adult' amongst them. That was most flattering in their odd way.
Vikki
And yes, yet again- I delete and re-post due to misspelling. I'm just going crazy with that delete and try it again button today!
Hi Vikki,
I've always been a very shy and insecure person. Only recently have I become a little more outspoken and bolder. I still don't like putting myself to the forefront. The boldest move I've ever made about myself is broadcasting in the blogosphere of my dream to be a successful romance novelist. That would have been unthinkable for me to do two years ago.
Anyway, I think you found a buyer for your "Timothy". For that price, I can't pass it up. I have a coworker who'll be retiring in two years, and she loves flowers and color purple as well. I think this will be perfect for her.
Vikki, Is the offer still stands for your "Budoire Chair"? I didn't respond right away because I wanted first to make sure that my sister would like it before buying it. Anyway, I showed it to her casually last week, showing off my talented artist friend, you. When I showed her your gallery, she reacted very positively toward your Budoire Chair. So, I assume she'll like it when I give it to her as a present. Just email me of the specifics, okay?
Good night,
Tasha
'Wonderful' is what comes up when we are thinking with the right side of the brain and have an 'aha'!
Do you agree Vikki?
June in Oz
Great picture! Now how did you come up with the powder green analogy from this. Could you imagine how boring that life would be. Yuck.
Competitiveness is one of the spices of human nature. I don't think it will ever be a thing of the past. The hard part is dealing with those who have an overly competitive nature. Like some of those coworkers you mention. I like The Logistician's approach, laid back but ready for action with a fair minded perspective.
Hi Eric,
It was just a 'pick a color' moment and I decided to make the world powder green. (This story was by the seat of my pants. My poor little blog was upstaged with the Artist Challenge this week.)
I SO agree with you! Don’t you think that people who are overtly competitive are individuals that don’t have a sense of ‘personal success?
And Yes- Logistician has a lot of good answers on how to deal with this world. (That’s why he’s our favorite motivational speaker.)
Look at what I added at the base of this story. Reg just did a radio interview last week. He’s has another coming up in March. He’s profound, insightful, direct and just a whole lot of fun to get to know.
Vikki
Hi June of Oz,
Ah- ha! I agree. That IS where our wonderful comes from.
Vikki
Hi Tashabud,
I think it goes without saying that your romantic stories are your glorious talent but you also have an amazing way of sharing your life with us on your blog. You take us to Wyoming, show us its beauty and majesty, introduce us to your family and friends, and tell us about all your adventures. Your blogs are frequently funny and always endearing. I’d say that’s pretty wonderful.
And yes on question in regards to the paintings, sweet lady. I’ll drop you a note with the details later today.
Vikki
Beautiful Vikki!
Hi Manuela,
Thanks. It's a little quickie but I liked it also.
Vikki
Thanks much for the plug Vikki. Although it may not be particularly obvious, I chose to call myself the Logistician because I like to see things get done.
Tashabud: One of the things about which I thought when reading Vikki's post is that when one begins to function in your "comfort zone" and recognizes "who you are," then some of that anxiety and discomfort disappear.
I have often said that 80% of the time that we think others are looking at us, they aren't; and of the remainder, perhaps 15% of the time we want them to, and they don't. Best we work on the 5%. You'll be alright. Just being able to articulate the issue goes a long way to getting past it.
Hi Logistician,
Your welcome and maybe I should call myself 'Miss Logistician Vikki.' I'm a pain in the ass about 'getting things done.' At least that's what I've been told me.
BTW- Mr. Film/TV Buff, Have you seen 'Carrying Chance' with Kevin Bacon? It's on HBO. It's a profound statement on our society coast to coast. (Dare you to watch it and not cry like a little girl.)
Vikki
Love the painting. Absolutely LOVE the life lesson. I still haven't found my 'style' - not with a brush and not with the pen. Well, keyboard, actually. The figurative pen, I guess.
Hi Lou,
Thanks for your comment.
That’s strange to hear you say that because you have such a recognizable and obvious style to your readers. Maybe you just need to stop and appreciate it, huh? Take a gander back over all the wonderful stories, paintings and photographs that you’ve created and see just what they tell you. We can see it clearly.
Vikki
First ~ absolutely love the painting - beautiful.
Second ~ the "green theme" had me go into Dr Seuss fits. Yikes!
Me - something special, wonderful? Eh, I can do most art stuff but I don't excel. Play the piano, watercolor painting, crafts, stained glass work, but nothing that I would say I excel at.... well, possibly making jewelry, but even still there are some Master Beaders that could bead me until a table any day!
Hi Aleta,
And thanks. Well I know someone who would absolutely disagree with you. He thinks you’re the most wonderful talented person that ever stepped on the face of this world. It's that guy who sleeps right next to you.
Hey BTW- we have 3 beaders, jewelry maker and candle maker on The Challenge. You've got to come check it out.
Big hugs married girl.
Vikki
Hi Vikki,
That's a good way of presenting your concept.
Yes, we oftentimes feel that we are better than other people, but as I grew older, I realized that each person has his/her own positive traits, and that this is what we should focus on.
Just like the concept of multiple intelligences, each person is significant to society.
Thought provoking post, Cheers.
Hi Jena,
Thank you for your comment and I agree with you. It is our differences that are to be valued and enjoyed.
Vikki
Okay, I gotta put this link where I will remember it. I get so busy...this is beautiful.
Thanks Sandy.
