Things We should Say and My Inspiration

Afterthought-
As I think back on it now, the scene replays again in my mind. Every action and word is repeated and analyzed. I didn’t understand at the time, but clarity has found my thoughts
.

This year I made a promise to myself. I want to remember to say ‘the things’ that we all stumble around and just assume other people know. You know, ‘the things we really should say?’

I just started this blog March 2008. An agent told me that 'I had to start an artist blog’ to get my work and gallery website visible online. I’d never even read a blog, much less written one. Quite honestly, I didn’t even understand what a blog was.

He referred to it as an online journal. Gag! I’d never even kept a diary as a kid! And who would want to read it anyway?

At first, I fought and dismissed the idea. It sounded like one more thing that would interrupt the only thing I wanted to do: spend all my time painting. But, as these things go, I eventually gave in and went in knowing nothing about blogging. I went in blind!

Oddly, I think that may be the best way. Coming from the entertainment field, my assumption was I should at least attempt to be entertaining. I wrote silly little shorts to go along with my paintings and hopefully grab your attention. I quickly found ‘what worked and what didn’t’ and bounced my way into blog world the ‘hard way‘.

As the weeks and months rolled by I began to notice something happening. Having the blog, and visitors actually kind enough to grace my little Internet space, -I was working harder in my studio. I was constantly pushing to have something new for the next blog. You were reacting and interacting with and about my work in ways that is invaluable to every artist. I was taking chances and venturing into subjects that I’d never taken the time to explore.

BUT, -this was the big thing: As I started visiting your blogs and reading your stories I was overwhelmed. You told truths about your hopes, fears and even secrets we usually only tell our best friends. You were brave enough to share your laughter and tears with the whole world. You gave insight into your deepest feelings and told me about your daily life. I still stand in awe.

About 5 months into blogging, I put the following on the front page of The Red Chair Gallery. It was about you. I should have told you. Don’t know why I didn’t. So I need to tell you now:

I am the artist whose original art you will see in this online art gallery. Capturing the truths that uniquely reflect our lives is my goal. You are my inspiration.

You are greatly valued and appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Heather- It's so nice to hear from you.
You were definitely my number one support when I started; always willing to share what you knew and explain how to get my blog going. I’ll never forget. I’ve tried to pass it on as I’ve gone along.

Thank you Sweet-pea. Hope all is well with you and your clan.

Thank YOU.

Several thoughts:

(1) The New Media / Social Networking Technology is revolutionary in its potential.

(2) Despite the advent of this technology, there is the traditional human component, and we all need to feel valued in some fashion.

(3) We as humans need to be "sufficiently" motivated to pursue certain goals. Our connections to others generally serve to lower the triggering point of that motivation.

Thanks again, I've learned alot from you, and I'm sure that during 2009 we're going to learn quite a bit more from one another.

The visual life you chose to share always amazes me. The life you are able to instill into an inanimate object, making it animated with a "life" of its own completely floors me. The fact that you can take a chair and make it come to life is phenomenal to me.

The stories you post along with your art is art in and of itself. You have a way with words, and can polish a story to be able to stand on it's own.

I for one am very glad you have chosen to join the blogging community. Otherwise, I don't think I would have ever met you.

Hi Eric,
Thanks, you old sweet tongued wildlife lover boy. What a nice complement.
I’ve really enjoyed your blog immensely and getting to know you. You exemplify what I was talking about here.

Hi Logistician,
Oh Reg- you’re blowing my mushy mood with all these analytical facts. (And you know I don’t get mushy very often.) But you’re right and it’s all true. To funny.
Your terrific, Reg. Onward into our 2009 adventure.

Vikki I feel the same with my writing. Bloggy people are so encouraging and many so very wise. There is little in life more precious than the gift of time and empathy directed with care.
To receive that is certainly good for creativity.
You've also helped me mate, and I so love your work.

Wow Vikki,

Your blog is awesome. You're a great artist, I can't find the proper way to describe what I feel looking at your paintings, they're brilliant! really...and so alive...

I came from a friend's blog -Tasha's The Big Picture. My purpose in coming here was to ask you permission to use your widget on "not accepting blog awards." May I use it too in my blog with your permission? I would appreciate it a lot.

I love your site, now I have to add it to my favorites.

All the best.

Hi June,
I’m of the opinion that writers and artistS are really the same animal. We just work in different mediums.

I’m sure you can identify with what I’m suggesting here. It’s just been an amazing process and so vital to my work this past year. The people that come to my blog, and the blogs I visit, stimulate a wealth of ideas and great understanding of ‘who we ALL are -as people.’

Hi Jenaisle,
Thank you and welcome to my blog I’ll check out your’s also.

Yes -Tasha and I are online and email buddies. I absolutely adore her. She is one of the most endearing people I’ve met in a long time.

Of course you’re welcome to use the ‘no blogs’ badge. That’s the reason I made him. If your readers want to use it- tell them to just grab it. They don’t have to ask permission.

Please visit again.

Hi Vikki,
I'm very touched. Even though you were expressing your thanks to everybody, I took it personally and am very moved by your heart-felt expression of gratitude.

You're an awesome artist, and I hope you already know that I'm a huge fan of your works. If only I were rich and have a huge place to display your paintings...

I agree with Douglas. The lighting, shadowing, and subtle colors of your painting made it picture perfect.

So interesting to learn on how your blog came about.

Have a great day. Hugs.
