Past Lives Part 2

Past Lives is a Meme which features installments from bloggers around the world writing creative stories about past lives, even possibly their own past lives!

Our story starts with a fictional Australian called David. As a last ditch effort trying to resolve his debilitating phobias, he goes through Past Life Regression (PLR) therapy. Join us as we follow David’s experiences through different times and continents.

If you are just joining us, please read Part 1 of the story and follow the links at the end of each segment to learn David's progress so far. Please note that you will be traveling to different blogs as each author adds to the evolution of David's journey. (Our links are listed on the right side of this blog)

PART 2-
In my first session I found myself hovering over a disturbing scene. I realized with horror the person involved was me. With morbid attachment I watched my final days in 1798 Alabama.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Stop it! I told you to stop! Stay there or I’m goin’ take a switch to you!!”

“Sassy get in here and stop talking to that goat. Take these beans up to Masser Wilson kitchen girl! And leave that goat outside! I swear I’m goin’ give you to the Paddy Rollers myself if you don’t behave!”

That’s my Momma. She the slave of Masser Wilson and so is my Daddy and so am I. I be 6 years old. My Momma says I was born in the spring of 1792. She and my Daddy jumpin the broom 1791 da second day of December and the happiest day of Momma’s life. Momma never had any more babies. Just me.

I have a goat. His name is Simon. Simon is my best friend. He follows me everywhere! But Momma wont let me bring him in the house. Momma always says the Paddy Rollers are going to get me if I don’t watch out. No Paddy Roller is goin’ get me!

Da Paddy Rollers are the devil men who chase after the slaves that run off. They beats and kills them at times. And sometimes dey sells them to other Massers. A slave that runs off is spoiled and no good for his Masser anymore. He just keep runnin off and causing trouble. Momma sez if the Paddy Roller catches me they just kill me cause I’m little and no good for nothin’

Den there’s Masser Thomas! I don’t like Masser Thomas most days. He chases me and throws sticks. Momma sez I have ta speak nice to Masser Thomas cause he’s the Masser and we da servants. He doesn’t look like no Masser! I don’t talk nice to him! I talk to Masser Thomas just the way I wanta talk! Masser Thomas is 8 years old.

Thomas da child of Masser Wilson. Thomas don’t look like the other children of Masser Wilson. All them got hair like straw and blue eyes. Thomas got dark eyes and dark hair. In fact Thomas look more like me than he does his brothers and sisters. But he the da child of Masser Wilson and Miss Margaret. Thomas also got a red heart on his shouldier. He sez it’s a birthmark. It sure is pretty. I wish I had a red heart on my shoulder. Masser Thomas follows me a round just like Simon! I gonna put a bell around Masser Thomas neck just like Simon. Then I’ll know when he’s coming. Momma, Get those beans up to the house then and you and Masser Thomas can go gather me some berries for the pie.”

“Yes Mame.”

Masser Thomas and I take the beans to the kitchen and then we take off to get Momma’s berries. She tells us to watch out for the Paddy Roller like she always does. No Paddy Roller’s goin’ get me. I’ll tell you that!

We finds lots of berries for Momma’s pie and then decide to go swimming and mud giggin’ for frogs. My Daddy likes frog legs. Thomas throws mud at me and I throw mud at him. Thomas and I is so muddies all I can see is his teeth and eyeballs. We be rollin’ and laughing and kicking and yelling. We even throws mud at Simon. The sun is shinning and we havin’ so much fun that I forget that I don’t like Thomas most days.

Well!!! LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE ! Two little Pollywogs.”

Thomas and I be falling and trying to run but we can’t. Our feet be stuck in the mud and the Paddy Roller kicks at us and puts his foot on Thomas back and holds me by my hair. Thomas can’t breath his face in the mud. I be screaming and yelling. Masser Thomas moving his arms and crying.

“ What do you want to do with them, Captain?”

Captain, “Get rid of ‘em. We don’t have any more room in the wagon. Hurry up and tie that goat to the wagon. We can use him.”

Paddy Roller brings up his big gun and puts it right at Masser Thomas and me. I scream! I scream! I scream! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Stop

Hi Lilly,
Thanks. This is SO MUCH fun! Yes the charcoal of Sassy was a quick sketch I did yesterday afternoon. (I love to see the subject of any story and thought our readers might enjoy also.)
I just wonder where David’s Past Life Regression will take him next?

Great piece of fiction. Touches me in unexpected places. When I was much younger I made a detour into the 'occult' - into Tarot. For some reason, I always felt the STRONGEST connection to the image of 'Yod' - the Hebrew character that looks like a tongue of flame. During that time, I had dreams which took be back to a time when I was an Eastern European Jewish merchant, of some sort - I plied my trade in the streets. I wore long robes. And something like a turban of some sort on my head. I had a beard, and knarled fingers. That's all I can remember. Weird??

Hi Lou,
That is so cool Lou! You remember a lot of detail especially for a dream. Maybe it is something more.

I don’t know where Sassy came from in my imagination. She’s been a little character in my mind for many years. I’m glad I found a vessel to bring her to life-as short as that was.

I can't believe you whipped out that sketch in one afternoon!
I LOVED seeing Sassy as I read about her. That makes a huge difference for me.

Vikki you and Lilly are so amazing. What talent! I actually go choked up when I read how they died. I'm still getting teary eyed. (my brother David always says "you're such a girl" when I get emotional at movies and such...
hahahahah... Just shows how well you guys write!

Hi Heather,
Thanks for your comments. It was a lot of fun to do. I hope you might consider doing a story. Something to think about.

Hi Jules,
Thank you. Hey, just about anything turns the floodgates on for me. I cry during commercials!

I wanted to mention, the applause on the ‘Past Lives’ theme goes to Lilly. This idea originated from a blog that she did several weeks back. She wanted to hear other peoples past lives experiences. It evolved into ‘let’s do a storyline'. It’s been a lot of fun already.

That's totally amazing. The story is written so eloquently in the childs's own tongue and voice. You're masterful in this writing.

Now, may I know who David is? Sorry if I appear lost. It's because I'm truly lost. Is it you, Vikki, or David who wrote the story? Please forgive me for my ignorance.

I love all your artwork. They're all masterpieces to me. Excellent work.

Hi Tasha,
No problem. Did you start by reading Lilly’s blog?

‘David’ is a character that Lilly created to start the past lives series. He’s trying to understand his phobias and goes through many past life regressions. So Lilly wrote Past Lives Part 1 on her blog.

‘Sassy’ is my story and character for Past Lives Part 2. (She’s the first of David’s past life regression experiences.)

Lilly will be writing Past Lives Part 3 - (coming later today)

Lou Ceel will be writing Past Lives Part 4. - (Coming later today)

Dina of Deepwater Journal – Past Lives Part 5

Jules of Arduousnincompoop- Past Lives Part 6.

Would like to write Past Lives Part 7? We’d love to have you join the group.

Hello Vikki ~ This is my first visit to your blog and It (past lives part 2) was an absorbing read. I forgot I was 'reading writing' and just went along with the story, which said so much about growing up and the influence of our environment and our parents and friends and just everyone and how barriers are torn down. Torn down just as they were torn down.

I wanted your chapter to just go on...

Hi Henry,
Welcome and thanks. My family was from the deep South. Sassy is part of me and every little girl personified in this bundle of mischeif and joy.

A few minutes ago, on TCM, a Buster Keaton silent movie aired. During one of the scenes, one of the characters had to escape harm by jumping in a body of water, and when he came up on the other side, there was a Negro sitting along side of the dock, who fell backward, rolled over, and then ran away as fast as he could.

I instantly thought about how unusual it must have been during the silent film era to have such a character, and it reminded me of the slaves photos earlier displayed on your site. The first famous black actor in Hollywood was the fellow who played Stephin Fetchit, who generally played a clown. I thought to myself, when did we make the transition in visual images from the intensely serious look on slave faces that we see in photos such as yours, and the more jocular, comedic persona portrayed by Stephin Fetchit. Just wanted to look at those photos again. Such intensity on the faces of those people. Not a single smile. Just intensity.

A member of my Father's family, which goes back generations in Charleston, SC, the center of the slave trade for years, has developed a family tree and accumulated the photos. All of the old photos have such an intensively serious look. Maybe it was the photographic "style" at the time. Or was it reflective of what the people were going through at the time? Just rambling.

redchair said...

Hi Reg,
The slaves actually posed as everyone did at that time. If you gander through the photos of the white and privileged, you’ll see they don’t smile either and their photos are just as morose in appearance.

Photography was new to their era. It was the fashion- or their hope to appear ‘dignified’ in photos. Smiling would have been considered a ‘fool hearty’ pose. Spontaneous snaps we know today didn’t exist yet. The subjects would have to keep perfectly still for minutes while the shudder exposed the negative to their image. Also their ‘smiles’ were not attractive in the seventeen and eighteen hundreds. Remember teeth were not cared for or brushed like we do today. A dentist came in the form of a pair of pliers.

It can be life-transforming to explore past lives. They help a person better grasp how to live and focus on the present.

Thanks Liara. We had a lot of fun doing this project.
